{"id":173,"date":"2021-01-19T17:24:36","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T17:24:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/176.32.230.18\/swordmagazine.net\/?p=173"},"modified":"2021-02-22T07:10:16","modified_gmt":"2021-02-22T07:10:16","slug":"promises-and-presidents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swordmagazine.net\/?p=173","title":{"rendered":"Promises and Presidents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Has God \u2018spirited-away\u2019 His promises to Israel\u2019s patriarchs?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>I write these words 24 hours after President Trump issued his order to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, conscious that by the time they are published, the situation will probably have developed and changed\u2026<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Some background:&nbsp;<strong>The Jerusalem Embassy Act 1995&nbsp;<\/strong>was passed by Congress in October 1995 for the purpose of initiating and funding the relocation of the US Embassy in Israel from&nbsp;<strong>Tel Aviv&nbsp;<\/strong>to&nbsp;<strong>Jerusalem<\/strong>, no later than May 31, 1999. The Act calls for Jerusalem to remain an undivided city and to be recognized as the capital of Israel. Israel&#8217;s declared capital is Jerusalem, however much of the international \u2018community\u2019 disputes this, because of varying responses to Israel\u2019s liberation of Jerusalem from Jordanian occupation in the 1967 war. (It is conveniently forgotten by most commentators that Jordan annexed the West Bank in the 1948 Arab-Israel war that followed the creation of the State of Israel. Only three countries recognized Jordan\u2019s annexation \u2013 Iraq, Pakistan and Britain!&nbsp;<strong>The Arab League&nbsp;<\/strong>later declared that it viewed the area &#8220;annexed by Jordan as a trust in its hands until the Palestine case is fully solved in the interests of its inhabitants&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:more --><\/p>\n<div class=\"swpm-more-tag-not-logged-in swpm-margin-top-10\">You need to login to view the rest of the content.
