One of the verses frequently quoted was \u201cpride comes before a fall\u201d, paraphrasing Proverbs 16:18: \u201cPride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall\u201d. We need to focus on this reality of \u2018pride\u2019. Let\u2019s ignore \u2018haughty spirit\u2019 as it is virtually the same thing. If you are proud then you tend to have a haughty spirit. Haughty comes from the word \u2018high\u2019 \u2013 haughty people look down on others. Haughtiness and pride are really two sides of the same coin. \u2018Destruction\u2019 and a \u2018fall\u2019, of course, are two things we should avoid. Destruction means loss.
