He had lived through the violence, human depravity, and lawlessness that fallen man had<br \/>revelled in, before God\u2019s judgment fell from the heavens onto the earth. He endured ridicule and<br \/>mocking as he went each day to work on the ark. Noah and his family were to be separated from the<br \/>rest of humankind.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>At the birth of his son, Noah\u2019s father gave the reason for his son\u2019s name: \u201cHe named him Noah saying,<br \/>\u2018This one will comfort us in the labour and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has<br \/>cursed\u2019\u201d (Genesis 5:29). There is an allusion to what had been said to Adam (Genesis 3:17), \u201ccursed is<br \/>the ground because of you; in TOIL you shall eat of it all the days of your life.\u201d Then when we go<br \/>forward to the eve of the Flood, we discover another etymology implied in the text.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:more --><\/p>\n<div class=\"swpm-more-tag-not-logged-in swpm-margin-top-10\">You need to login to view the rest of the content.
