Assistant: “A Hoover what, sir?”
Customer: “A Hoover what sucks up dirt from the carpet!”
Assistant: “Ah, you mean a Hoover Vacuum Cleaner!”
The fact is that Hoover make all manner of other domestic items: Steam Irons, Washing Machines, Washer/Dryers, Dishwashers, etc. etc. So to simply ask for a “Hoover” isn’t sufficient to get what you want.
